Code of Sustainable Mining

Description

On September 3, 2026, the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Minerals, Metals, Chemicals, and Other Products released a revised draft of the “Code of Sustainable Mining” and accompanying assessment tools. Building upon existing industry guidelines, the Code represents a systematic upgrade that fully draws on representative sustainability frameworks and environmental and social risk management requirements in the international mining sector, draws on relevant domestic and international standards and specifications for sustainable mining, incorporates practical methodologies for risk assessment and due diligence, and integrates China’s policy directions on green development, high-quality development, and corporate sustainability overseas, as well as the Chamber’s practical achievements in specialized areas such as due diligence in mineral supply chains and biodiversity conservation. The Code provides a clear framework for corporate due diligence and supply chain governance in overseas operations.
