Baseline Study on Private Security Regulation in the Southern Africa Region (DCAF)

Description

This study is aimed at contributing towards the effective regulation of private security in the region. Through this study, a deeper understanding of the nature of the private securityindustry will be gained. An appreciation of the various regulatory regimes will also present a perspective on what gaps countries need to address in order to ensure that the private security industry is effectively regulated in the region.

The study will also lay a foundation for an informed debate on the possibility of establishing a network of regulators of private security for the purpose of sharing best practices that will improve the regulation of the private security industry in the region. The ultimate goal will be to enhance knowledge on challenges and opportunities for the promotion of effective oversight and accountability of the private security industry at regional and national levels.
